Namaste all!

After almost 2 years of hibernation – thanks to the pandemic, pollution, torrential rain and laziness – we are back! We are giving the Series a fresh start, right from the name, brand and strategy. Here’s a quick rundown of changes:

NEW NAME, NEW WEBSITE

Call us Snail Trail Series! Walk, run, sprint or fly… We needed a better name, so held a name competition. Dishebh Raj Shrestha took the prize with his suggestion. The website is also redone for the 8th time now (lost count actually).

Please follow our Facebook page for updates: https://www.facebook.com/snailtrailseries/

KTM Series’ page will be renamed to Trail Mob and have posts on our races, hikes and treks.

ALL EQUALS

All participants – regardless of gender, age, nationality, caste, color, profession, fitness level, running experience or financial standing – are treated and priced the same. There will be no discrimination. Kids below 18 get a handsome discount.

NEW NORMAL, NEW DATES, NEW DISTANCES

All hygiene protocols will be followed to make the event as safe as possible for everyone.

Given the mess we’ve all found ourselves in, dates will now be announced three months at a time, not yearly, to allow for flexibility. We’ll get in touch with Season Pass holders in the meantime. The race on November 20th will be a no-frills one. Our memory of workflow has gotten rusty, so we’re better off nailing the operations, as opposed to focusing on nice-to-have things like race gate and banners.

Distances are now 10K and 3K. Cut-off time is 4 hours which means you can move at your own pace – run or hike! There will be hiking guides trailing the pack if you need any assistance.

JOIN PIKEY PEAK TREK ON DEC 5TH (FOR 5 DAYS) WITH VONKATHMANDU, OUR TREKKING WING

The best-kept secret in lower Solukhumbu makes for a grand alpine landscape and culture trek, with Everest and other mountains dominating the horizon. Highlights of Pikey Peak Trek include:

  • View of high Khumbu mountains and and deep Solu valleys seen from Pattale
  • Alpine forests and breezy ridge walk
  • The tiny settlement of Jhapre and layers of hills and mountains seen from here
  • Serene and gradual walk up to Pikey Peak Base Camp, above the treeline on crazy landscapes
  • Changing landscapes – thick jungles, alpine, rocky 360-degree view of the mountains and stretch as wide as the eyes can see
  • Lovely jungle descent down to Junbesi and Phaplu
  • Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu with incredible mountain views

Visit https://vonkathmandu.com/trips/pikey-peak-trek/ for full itinerary, details, gallery and logistics.

DEADLINES, AND RSVP FOR REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS

Regular signup deadline is till Wednesday 6:11pm. We strongly discourage walk-in registration because it creates a bottleneck on race morning. Plus, walk-in entry fees is double.

If you’d registered and paid for the race/s that got cancelled, please let us know if you’re coming on Saturday’s race (Nov 20th) so we can plan accordingly. If you can’t join, we can either transfer it to next event or refund. Because of the change in prices and distance, international participants who’d registered for 15K for the cancelled race get a Rs. 500 refund, and Nepalese participants in 7K add Rs. 250.

SEASON PASS DISCONTINUED

We’re scrapping Season Passes because we can’t confirm dates for the rest of the year. Remaining credit amounts will be refunded in full. Many have offered to donate to the Series. We really appreciate the gesture, but we do not accept contributions/donations. Participants with Season Pass, please expect an email on this in a couple of days.

PAYMENT SPOTS

Payment spots for Regular deadline:

  • Lemon Tree Bakery, Sanepa
  • Coffee Talk, Maharajgunj
  • Kausi Cafe, Thamel
  • De Pizza Square, Patan

BECOME A MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS LEAD EXPERT AND RUN FOR FREE!

Are you observant? Do you like to analyze critically? Do you have sharp ears and eyes? Do you like Bond movies? Are you nosey?

If your answer is a resounding yes, please consider joining our Management and Operations Lead Expert program. (PS: This program has been renamed from Rapid Assessment Talent.) You’ll get to run for free, and get treated to milk and cookies at Base Camp.

The job requires observing how the event goes and how the team is working, and any positive or negative feedback from participants before, during, after and outside the event. Your identity will be kept confidential. There are five openings. Get in touch with me at 9801151533 for this amazing opportunity.

All the changes we’ve made to the Series are through participant feedback and observation. Now we’re putting extra emphasis on collecting feedback to make necessary improvements. We mean business.

PS: We have full cooperation and permission from local authorities to run the event. If for any reason there are last minute changes in state mandates, we will have to postpone again. Fingers crossed!

See you all soon! And don’t forget to register by Wednesday for the best deal on entry fees.
